Is Obama a war-monger?

On the other hand, John McCain showed his understanding of the world and the way you treat allied countries; he is respected by most non-beligerent government leaders. More than once he showed he understood the difficulties a sovereign nation like Pakistan has, even when this conflicted whith the more blustering aspects of the Bush-administration.And the new Pakistani-presisent, Zardari, seems to at least like Sarah Palin at a personal level.

Foul! I hear some of you scream, John McCain joked to a fellow military-man about ‘Bomb, bomb, Iran’!

Besides the fact that in the military the humor tends to be a bit coarser than in civilian society (the inherent stress and danger of the life-style will do that to a person), hostile Iran at the moment is represented by a maniac well-versed in the Middle-Easten art of hyperbole, to put it mildly. It’s hard to imagine that the opinion of someone who already envisions your country as ‘the Great Satan’ that protects a ‘rotting corpse’ (allied Israel) from being ‘wiped from the face of the Earth’, would – could – be worsened by an off-color joke between  two veterans. If anything, it would strengthen the impression McCain wouldn’t hesitate to retaliate when a NATO-ally like Israel would be attacked by Iran, thus lowering the likelyhood of an attack.

A question, by the way,  Barack Obama never answered during the second presidential debate. He couldn’t risk talking straight, I suppose.

Apparently Obama even thinks the First Gulf War was a stellar example of ‘smart politics’ ( ) , because ‘it only cost 20 billion dollars’, ‘other Arab countries helped with the effort’ and it was ‘short’.
Oookay….I get it. Nice move, buster.
It was short because instead of helping the Kurds and others get rid of Saddam – who we had promised we would help if they rose up against Saddam, which they did – we left them to rot. This is the main reason the Second Gulf War was less succesfull: the ones who would be glad to be rid of Saddam were either wary of being betrayed again, or dead. Also, because the job wasn’t finished, a second war had to be waged to rid the world of Saddam.
Yes other Arab countries helped, but in doing so the seed of Osama’s resentment was born: the US-troops stationed at Saudi soil conflicted with his idea of a sacred Arabia ie no ‘infidels’.
Every time I think I’ve seen the extend of The One’s astounding grasp of foreign policy and security, he amazes me. And they bitch about VP Palin having only contact with Russia over maritime treaties?
