Barack’s Youth Brigade (Updated)

“And the last point I just want to make. I think the young people of America are especially interested in how they can serve, and that’s one of the reasons why I’m interested in doubling the Peace Corps, making sure that we are creating a volunteer corps all across this country that can be involved in their community, involved in military service, so that military families and our troops are not the only ones bearing the burden of renewing America.” Barack Obama, 2nd Presidential debate

“And that’s why I’ve proposed a $4,000 tuition credit, every student, every year, in exchange for some form of community service, whether it’s military service, whether it’s Peace Corps, whether it’s working in a community.”Barack Obama, 3d Presidential debate

These excerpts show to me a rather worrisome worldview and message. The most prominent is the idea that Senator Governor apparently sees it as okay to force ‘volunteer’ work upon people. The second is that he aims these plans squarely at the youth. Note that EVERY student is required to do ‘community service’. Last time I checked that was a sentence for criminals. Does Obama see all young people as offenders? Or is it even more sinister: (para) military service is named each and every time. Could this be a precussor to the armed youth gangs less than savory political parties of past and present (eg the Hindu-fundamentalist party in India, the gangs in Kenya, the ‘Putin Jugend’ of Russia)  employ to intimidate opponents? Given Obama’s Truth Squads, legal extortions and current harassament of ‘dissenters’ this is hardly pure fantasy.

[…] floridaloanspecialist wrote an interesting post today onHere’s a quick excerptSome of the scariest excerpts from this campaign-season: “Barack Obama will require you to work. He is going to demand that you shed your cynicism. That you put down your divisions. That you come out of your isolation and that you move out of your comfort zone. That you push yourselves to be better. And that you engage. Barack will never allow you to go back to your lives as usual – uninvolved, uninformed – you have to stay at the seat at the table of democracy with a man like Barack Obama not just on Tuesday but in a year from now, in four years from now, in eights years from now, you will have to be engaged.”  Michelle Obama, to students “We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just […] […]
